Dear Wisdom of Crowds readers,
You may notice that we have spruced the place up a bit — we have a new banner, and a new layout. We’re also rolling out several new features, all of which embody our motto: Agreement is nice. Disagreement is better.
CrowdSource is a new weekly digest synthesizing the intellectual disputes, ideological disagreements, and national debates that have piqued our interest (or inflamed our passions). Consider it a resource for the lover of ideas. It will arrive in your inbox every Monday at 8:00 a.m.
Our second new feature is called Provocations. If you’ve ever wanted to read Shadi’s take on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Damir’s opinion about the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Christine’s review of the latest sociological study on loneliness, or any editor’s take on anything, now you can! The second Wednesday of every month, we will send out an email inviting all subscribers to submit their provocations to our editors. Each month, a different editor will select one of these provocations, and write their full Tuesday Note in response.
Along with rolling out these new features, we are renewing our commitment to making Wisdom of Crowds more than a publication: a community of writers and readers equally obsessed with first principles and deep disagreements. CrowdSource will regularly feature a few of best reader comments from the previous week, and the Provocations will give subscribers the chance to directly influence the topics and ideas discussed on the site.
On top of all this, we are doubling down on Debates, and adding new regular contributors — soon to be announced! — to our masthead. Our weekly schedule will include CrowdSource on Mondays, a Note by one of our editors on Tuesdays, and the podcast you’ve come to expect on Fridays. On the remaining weekdays, we might experiment with new formats, publish outside contributors, and of course, host more live chats and encounters between readers, writers, and subscribers.
We hope you are excited about all this as much as we are. We cherish our community of readers: Thank you!
Santiago Ramos, Executive Editor
