Once established, does any state have the right to continue to exist? Or perhaps it's better to ask, are all states entitled to be recognized by legitimate international law? As virtually all states 'began' at some point, and their borders shifted over time, perhaps its even more relevant to ask why the right to secure borders is allowed to be ignored by powerful nations. And when that happens, what - if anything - is anyone to do about it? Perhaps this rule needs further agreement, but before that can happen, recognized borders in the 21st Century, in a presumably post-colonial era, must be finished and finalized, be they in Ukraine or Palestine or Greenland.
