ha yes I hadn't thought of it that way, but yes you'd be taking much more of a risk doing that in a lot of other places. thanks god for america I guess.
What could the US have done to keep the Shah in Iran, for example? At some point the Arab world has to take responsibility for its own colonialist motivations and for the left to stop blaming the West for absolutely all of it (even though there is a lot to blame it for).
I really love your writing style Shadi and it's something I definitely try to emulate. On the article, I try to 'lose well' but oftentimes am a bad loser... sometimes I think it's a good thing to be a bad loser up to a point. It can stimulate desires to exert yourself and come back fighting even harder. There are some opponents that perhaps don't deserve grace in their defeat.
Glad to hear you called out the imam! Can't imagine doing that in Lahore on something like that. Would likely get beat up.

The melancholy voice of an old soul (lol)! I guess it’s increasingly difficult to be optimistic. Great piece though.
ha, yes. I suppose we all get there eventually, or at least most of us do, for better and worse... Thank you, glad it resonated!
